I am a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and an IAEDP approved CEDS supervisor (CEDS-S). My professional experience working in a therapeutic setting with eating disorders started at a residential treatment facility for adolescents. During this time, I provided therapy for male and female youth suffering from anorexia and bulimia in a residential setting. I co-facilitated group therapy, conducted individual and family sessions, and worked with a multi-disciplinary treatment team including: physicians, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and dietitians. Through this experience, I gained invaluable knowledge about the treatment of eating disorders, the importance of working with a treatment team, and the unique set of circumstances that each individual suffering from an eating disorder confronts. In addition to being a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, I am also a CEDS approved supervisor, which allows me to oversee and supervise therapists working towards obtaining their own certification to work with eating disorders.
After transitioning to work for an outpatient mental health clinic, I continued to treat individuals suffering from anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorders. In this particular setting, the distinct set of circumstances that these clients face, primarily due to a lack of funding, challenged me to find unique resources in order to access appropriate and necessary services (e.g. dietitians, doctors, and treatment teams familiar with eating disorders, etc). I believe that my exposure in treating an underserved population has allowed me to broaden and expand my knowledge and understanding of eating disorders, and the unique presentation of symptoms involved in various cases. This has assisted me in developing treatment strategies when working with those individuals suffering from an eating disorder, and the family members that are impacted by its profound effects.
In my private practice, I continue to work extensively with various types of eating disorders including; anorexia, bulimia, compulsive over exercising, binge eating, exercise bulimia, and compulsive overeating. Working in an outpatient setting, I am able to access the resources necessary in order to work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals. Collaborating with a team is imperative in the treatment of eating disorders, and is necessary to ensure that clients receive the best possible care in working towards recovery. My practice continues to include male and female clients, as well as adolescents and adults.
