Therapy with the Deaf

Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Experience

My interest in working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals began at a young age and played a significant role in my educational and professional development. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Studies with a concentration in Human Services from California State University, Northridge, and have extensive experience with Deaf culture and American Sign Language (ASL).

My background includes working and living at a residential school for the Deaf, supporting Deaf students in educational settings, and serving as an interpreter in a high school environment. During my years working in community mental health, I also had the opportunity to provide services to Deaf individuals and their families, which deepened my understanding of the unique cultural, linguistic, and accessibility considerations involved in mental health treatment.

These experiences continue to inform my appreciation for Deaf culture, the Deaf community, and the importance of culturally responsive care. My training and background in Deaf Studies remain an important part of my professional journey and continue to shape my understanding of communication, identity, and human connection.

While my educational and professional background includes extensive training in Deaf Studies, Deaf culture, and American Sign Language (ASL), my current clinical practice is focused on trauma, anxiety, somatic therapy, EMDR, and related specialties. As a result, I am not currently offering therapy services in ASL.
