A safe, authentic therapeutic relationship

Mary Ortenburger outside her therapy office

I believe meaningful change occurs within the context of a safe, authentic therapeutic relationship. My approach is relational, experiential, and body-centered, grounded in the belief that healing happens when clients feel understood, respected, appropriately challenged, and supported as they explore new ways of relating to themselves and others.

Lasting change takes more than understanding

Many of the people I work with have spent years trying to understand why they think, feel, or respond the way they do. While insight is an important part of the healing process, lasting change often requires more than understanding. It involves working with the nervous system, emotions, relationships, and the body to create new experiences rather than simply new explanations.

Therapy shaped around you

Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, I integrate approaches based on each client’s unique history, strengths, and goals. My work draws from Relational Gestalt Therapy, attachment theory, family systems, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing®, Yoga Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), mindfulness, and other evidence-informed approaches.

What our work may include

Depending on your needs, therapy may include:

  • EMDR
  • Somatic awareness and nervous system regulation
  • Experiential interventions
  • Mindful movement
  • Exploration of the relational patterns that continue to influence your present-day life

Greater resilience, self-awareness, and connection

I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, relationship challenges, life transitions, and nervous system dysregulation. Regardless of the concerns that bring someone to therapy, my goal is to help clients develop greater flexibility, resilience, self-awareness, and connection—not simply reduce symptoms.

Above all, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is collaborative, compassionate, and growth-oriented.

I believe every person has an innate capacity for healing and adaptation, and that therapy can help uncover the strengths, resources, and possibilities that may have become hidden through life’s challenges.
